In a region traditionally known for oil, finance, and trade, one visionary leader saw an untapped frontier: pop culture. Dr. Rashid Mohammed Zubair Al Farooq didn’t just identify a gap in the Middle East’s entertainment landscape; he built an empire to fill it.
From his roots in banking and corporate leadership to pioneering the region’s most dynamic pop culture ecosystem, Dr. Rashid Al Farooq has redefined what it means to be an entrepreneur in an unconventional industry. As the founder of Speedy Comics Group, home to PopConME, Speedy Café, and the groundbreaking HIT Grading & Authentication, he has transformed the UAE into a serious contender on the global fandom stage.
But his impact extends far beyond collectibles and conventions. As a Peace Ambassador and humanitarian advocate, Dr. Rashid Al Farooq brings a purpose-driven philosophy to every venture, believing that true success must uplift communities and create lasting cultural impact.
In this exclusive interview, Dr. Rashid Al Farooq shares the story behind his remarkable transition, his vision for positioning the Middle East as a pop culture powerhouse, and what’s next for an industry that’s only just beginning to realize its potential in the region.
JOURNEY
Dr. Rashid, your professional journey has taken you from banking and corporate leadership to becoming a pioneer in pop culture and collectibles. What motivated you to make this transition?
From the very beginning, I’ve always believed in following passion with purpose. My time in banking and corporate leadership gave me structure, discipline, and a sharp eye for opportunity — but my heart was always in pop culture and fandom. I saw a massive gap in the Middle East: no true homegrown platform that celebrated comics, collectibles, and fan experiences on a global level. That’s what inspired me to make the transition — to build something that didn’t exist here and create a cultural movement that resonates with people of all ages.

VISION
As Group CEO of Speedy Comics ME, you’ve positioned the company as the #1 pop culture brand in the region, with ventures like PopConME, PopUpCon, and Speedy Café. What was the vision behind building this ecosystem, and what sets it apart?
The vision was simple yet ambitious: to create the #1 pop culture powerhouse in the region, not just a store. Speedy Comics Group is an ecosystem — PopConME, PopUpCon, Speedy Café, Speedy Swap Meet, HIT Grading — all interconnected to serve the fan community from every angle. What sets us apart is that we’re not importing culture — we’re creating it here, in the UAE, and exporting it to the world. We’ve positioned the region as a serious player in global fandom.
You recently co-founded HIT Grading & Authentication LLC, the first homegrown Emirati grading and authentication company. What motivated you to step into this space, and how do you see the collectibles market evolving in the Middle East?
HIT Grading was born out of necessity. Collectors in this region were always dependent on the West for grading and authentication. We wanted to redefine that — to build the first Emirati homegrown grading company, powered by AI, hybrid systems, and GCC precision. The Middle East collectibles market is just at the beginning of its growth curve. Over the next five years, I see the region becoming one of the fastest-growing hubs for trading cards, comics, and pop culture investments.
Pop culture has become a powerful driver of global connections. How do you see the role of the Middle East in shaping and contributing to this global conversation?
The Middle East is no longer just a consumer of global trends — we are becoming contributors. From hosting world-class conventions to launching original platforms and products, we’re shaping the narrative. Our advantage is that we blend tradition and hospitality with modern pop culture, making experiences unique to this region. That fusion is what makes our voice distinct in the global conversation.
INNOVATION
Innovation and technology, including AI and hybrid systems are central to your ventures. How do you balance tradition, authenticity, and innovation in businesses like AGS Speedy Technologies and HIT Grading?
I believe innovation must serve authenticity, not replace it. At HIT, for example, AI enhances the grading process but doesn’t replace human expertise — it strengthens it. With AG Speedy HIT Technologies, we design systems that ensure precision and transparency while respecting the traditions of collecting. The balance comes from knowing that technology is a tool, but trust is the foundation.
IMPACT
You’ve been deeply involved in humanitarian and peace initiatives, serving as a Peace Ambassador and supporting causes from disability centers to global peace committees. How has this shaped your leadership philosophy and entrepreneurial vision?
It has taught me that success is meaningless unless it uplifts others. Being a Peace Ambassador, supporting disability centers, and global peace initiatives have shaped my leadership into something purpose-driven. Every business I create has to have an element of impact — whether through community engagement, creating jobs, or promoting inclusivity.

Building large-scale fan experiences requires strong collaborations. Can you share how you’ve forged partnerships with global creators, celebrities, and brands — and how these collaborations have elevated Speedy Comics’ global presence?
Collaboration has been at the core of our journey. Working with global creators, celebrities, and brands has not only amplified our visibility but also given fans in the region access to experiences they never imagined possible. These collaborations — from Hollywood actors to TCG icons — validate that the UAE and GCC are now firmly on the global pop culture map.

FUTURE
You’ve described yourself as passionate about bridging global trends with regional opportunities. Looking ahead, where do you see the biggest opportunities for growth in pop culture, live entertainment, and collectibles in the Middle East?
The biggest opportunities lie in live experiences and digital transformation. Fans want more than products — they want memories, interactions, and unique collectibles that live both physically and digitally. Live conventions, hybrid streaming events, and blockchain-backed collectibles are areas where I see exponential growth for the region.
Many young entrepreneurs in the GCC and beyond look up to your journey. What advice would you share with aspiring founders who want to create impact-driven ventures in unconventional industries?
Don’t wait for validation. If you have a vision, act on it, even if no one else sees it yet. When I started, many people didn’t believe comics, TCGs, or collectibles could become a serious business in the Middle East. Today, it’s an industry. My advice: combine courage with consistency, and never lose sight of your passion.

Finally, what’s next for you and Speedy Comics Group? Are there upcoming projects or expansions that you’re most excited to share with our readers?
The journey has just begun. We’re expanding HIT Grading globally, scaling PopConME into the biggest convention in the region, and launching new verticals under Speedy Comics Group. But what excites me most is creating the next generation of platforms — bridging gaming, collectibles, and live entertainment into a single cultural powerhouse that puts the UAE at the heart of global Fandom.
